Our Mission
At AMHA, our mission is clear and heartfelt: We're here to make sure everyone, including low-income families, seniors, and those with disabilities, can find a safe, affordable place to call home. We're not just about housing; we're about helping you thrive. It's our goal to empower you to become self-sufficient and improve your quality of life.
Our commitment to this mission drives our various housing programs, like Public Housing, Section 8 Vouchers, and The Dew House. We want you to have access to affordable living and housing options, no matter your financial situation. It's about building a brighter future, and we're with you every step of the way. As an integral part of Athens County, we exist first and foremost to serve our local community, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to create a better tomorrow.
Our History
Serving Athens County for Over 50 Years
For more than half a century, the Athens Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) has been a cornerstone in Athens County, Ohio. We started in 1967, established by the Housing and Community Development Act, to address the pressing need for safe, affordable housing. Our founders saw the challenges faced by low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities. They believed everyone deserved a decent place to live.
Carrying the Legacy Forward
Our history is a testament to our commitment to the community. We've created housing programs, guided by federal housing regulations and Project-based subsidies through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to provide affordable, quality homes for those who need them. We honor our past by striving to empower families to become self-sufficient and improve their lives.
Building a Brighter Future
Our history shapes us, and our mission guides us. At AMHA, we continue to provide homes for those in need. Together, we're creating a better future for our community.
